We hope that you will enjoy seeing examples of our work and of the events that we are participating in over the year.
This year has begun as a very busy one for us. With three exhibitions forthcoming and a winter workshop, we have all been very busy creating work.
Our beginner groups have made a good start to the year and the numbers of interested participants is increasing steadily.
On Friday 28th April we opened the first of the exhibitions for this year - "Love, Felt, Life" at Pepper Street Arts Centre. We all give our thanks to Igora Lucyna Opala, who opened the exhibition for us. Her gracious and very inspirational words were very much appreciated by all of our artists. She is truly a wonderful mentor to women artists. We also thank the staff at Pepper Street Arts Centre for the very tasteful way in which our work has been displayed and for all their help in bringing this exhibition to fruition.
On Saturday 29th April we had the first of three artist demonstrations at the exhibition, titled "The Alchemy of Fibre: Turning Wool Fibre Into Sculptural Forms. Judy and Rosalind demonstrated the use of merino wool, paper and textile embellishments to create decorative pots. We had around 15 to 20 participants, who were actively engaged with the process and who plied us with many questions. This certainly indicated great interest. The staff at the gallery have passed on to us that they have received extremely positive feedback following the demonstration.
The next demonstration is on Saturday May 6th with Moira Simpson - Fabulous Felting: Painting With Fibres. Moira will demonstrate a variety of methods of using wool fibres and other materials to apply colour, pattern and mark-making to create hand-made felt compositions.
On Saturday 13th May Suzy Gilbert will give the final demonstration - Creating Wearable Art From Wool Fibre. Suzy will demonstrate the process of making a felted top from merino wool and colourful silk, using a resist.
Here are just a few of the items in this very extensive exhibition.
